Project Bridging Generations: Fostering V4 Cultural Identity and Civic Engagement Through Innovative Library leverages libraries as key hubs for engaging Generation Alpha in the V4 (PL, CZ, HU, SK). It empowers youth by transforming these spaces into forums for civic participation and shared cultural heritage. We’ll adapt, research, librarian-led tutoring, intergenerational workshops, youth involvement and a guidebook for promoting cross-border cooperation, democratic values, inclusive engagement.
Estimated project implementation time: October 2025 – October 2026
Fostering Cross-Cultural V4 Identity and Civic and Democratic Engagement for Gen Alpha in Digital Age. Our project, addresses a critical challenge: the eroding sense of shared cultural identity and civic engagement among V4 youth in an increasingly digital and globalized world. Despite deep historical and cultural ties within the Visegrad Four, today's Generation Alpha is often disconnected from their regional heritage and democratic values. This risks weakening their local identity awareness and diminishing their capacity for crucial cross-border understanding and future cooperation. Currently, engagement of young people in cultural institutions like libraries, especially concerning interactive, cross-border, or V4-themed content, remains limited. Traditional formats prevail, leaving a notable gap in innovative, age appropriate programming that promotes cultural belonging and civic skills within a regional context. Adaptive tools and proven models are lacking in many libraries to effectively reach and engage Generation Alpha. Consequently, a generation may grow up without meaningful exposure to their shared Central European identity or opportunities to build essential intercultural competencies and democratic citizenship. Our project aims to reverse this by transforming libraries into inclusive, participatory, and intergenerational hubs where young people can actively explore their local heritage, connect with diverse perspectives, and develop as informed, engaged citizens valuing democratic principles.
